Final Fantasy 4
Square-Enix has a NASTY habit of milking their most successful properties until they're dry.
And then milk some more anyway.
The most (in?)famous property is Final Fantasy 7, no, not the Final Fantasy SERIES, but Final Fantasy 7. It spawned a crap load of spin-offs YEARS after its release, and has a legion of fanboys frothing at the mouth at the mere mention of Sephiroth.
Then there's the actual series itself, with plenty of titles that hold their own.
Tetsuya Nomura found early work with the art department on games like Chrono Trigger, his character designs for the cast of Final Fantasy 7 had people take more notice (especially since the previous designer, Amano, left), but his directorial debut with the Kingdom Hearts series cemented him into the hearts of many fans that will froth at the mere mention of RikuxSora, froth or barf, whatever.
His most recent work, The World Ends With You, has seen success with its fun battle system and the collectible "pins," the sheer number of which would drive completists insane, if it weren't for the Nintendo Wi-Fi features.
Alas, I'm not going to talk about Nomura and his horrible rendition of the Disney films in the KH series, or his over-reliance on the damn spiky hairdos that plaque his games.
No, I'm talking about the re-re-re-release of Final Fantasy 4. Known as FF2 in its NA debut, it was re-released as Final Fantasy 4 as part of the Final Fantasy Chronicles package, and then re-re-released as a GBA port. I think. What is that, two re-releases already?
Now there's a freaking remake, a 3D REMAKE OF THE GAME, WITH VOICE ACTING.
I lauded that it was simply Square-Enix milking the franchises' popularity, I mean FF4 was quite popular in its day, having a much better storyline than its predecessors, as well as actually being able to have 5 party members!
And then out of curiousity, I saw the trailer for it. Got to say, some of the voices were...unique. Kain's voice I found was too deep, sounds like freaking older Yugi from Yu-Gi-Oh (I wouldn't be surprised if it WAS the VA), but the twin mages sound appropriately childish.
They also showed off the turning point of the game, which I found to be an interesting marketing tactic: appealing to the nostalgia of previous FF4 gamers.
And really, I was impressed. The game looked GOOD, and I could recall many of the scenes showcased. It was a good game then, and I'm sure it'll be a good game now.
They REALLY need to make a sequel to Chrono Trigger though, THAT game deserves a sequel.
And then milk some more anyway.
