The rule of 3.

So when a movie sequel is released, people will either say it's better or worse than the first.

And when the third one comes out, they do the same thing, but compare it to the first two.

So I postulate this...

If the sequel is better than the first, then the third one will almost assuredly be worse when compared to the first two.

If the sequel is worse than the first, then the third one will almost assuredly be better when compared to the first two (or at least when compared to the second one).
