Next month.

Do you know what next month is?

10 freaking years of POKEMON on television. 10, freaking years in Japan.

Honestly, everyone knows pokemon. A lot of people nowadays look at it with disgust, or grimace. I'll admit, I look at pokemon as if it were trash, but really? It's like an old Disney movie, it holds a place in my heart.

Just not a good place. I mean I wasted a lot of time and money on the damn thing, and it just became really stupid to keep shelling out 5 - 6 bucks for a pack of trading cards when a new expansion would come out next year.

But really, the show was where it was at. It's really slow, and it becomes REALLY formulaic REALLY fast, but come on. This was about 8 years ago, this was my childhood! The game was simplistic, but fun. The cards were pretty fun sometimes, but when I realized that you REALLY needed money to stay in it I left fast. Hell, I still have my holo Charizard from the first base set (reprint though, so bolded font) and a really old prize: holo Mewtwo.

1st edition, holo Mewtwo. Still in freakishly mint condition.

The show had some pretty good episodes, I remember taping them and re-watching some of the greatest moments. When Charmeleon evolved into Charizard, or a really good gym battle, or when Pikachu was going to leave (he found a bunch of other Pikachu). Or when Ash let go of Butterfree, damn, that was so cool and sad at the same time. For an 11 year old, seeing Butterfree get set free while the theme song played was pretty sad.

Yeah, there are so many new games, there's still new episodes, people still love it to bits. But a lot of people hate it now, which is kind of sad but it's also true. It isn't that great, it's a really crappy show actually. The jokes are lame (like lamer than my jokes), the stories are usually boring (unless it's a gym battle or something) and the villains are SO predictable.

But I can't help but feel like missing it. I think it's the nostalgia, kind of like watching an old show that you know sucks, but you have fond memories.

Bucky O' Hare. Scott McNeil for the win! He was the four-armed duck!

P.S. One more thing about pokemon. For some crazy reason, I have a friend who still plays the games. I think she's out of it now, she's just playing Fire Emblem all day now. Fire Emblem to her is like Kingdom Hearts to me. Yeah, it's that serious.

............

1. I vaguely recall Charmander evolving.
2. I vaguely recall Butterfree being set free
3. I don't recall pikachu finding other pikachu and threatening to leave....
4. Fire Emblem ftw! i still haven't finished hector hard mode tho... or gotten beyond chapter 5 in Roy's story....
5. I don't play pokemon anymore.... the last time i played that was a month ago? But only for like 2 hours or something... currently, I only have 4 or 5 badges on the lastest game..... but boy have I played a lot of pokemon....
Red, Blue, Yellow, GREEN (yup, in Japanese..), Silver Crystal, Gold, Ruby, Saphire... played'em all. At least 2 times each. AT LEAST, some more than others.... like Crystal, I mustave played that 10 times cuz at that time Sylvia lent me her gameboy and I could actually play constantly :P

Oh yeah... i forgot to mention...
POKEMON PUZZLE!!!

And I never bought any pokemon cards, I never had the luxury of getting allowance as a child, and asking mother to cough up 5 bucks for a couple sheets of laminated paper was just asking for it.
