The stupidity over the flu

Small rant about the H1N1 (or "Swine") flu.

1. Apparently some Canadian students that went to China to learn Chinese were detained over fears of having the flu. Yep, apparently when they got off the plane in Changchun, they were met by health officials who proceeded to isolate them and take their temperature. They subsequently were quarantined for 7 days.

Okay, I find that a bit of an overreaction, but sure, that makes sense. We have people that have contracted the flu, so be wary of all Canadians coming in.

Yeah, no problem with that AT ALL (can you tell I'm being sarcastic?). Seriously though, it is logical to monitor them, in case they really DO have the flu. My bigger problem with this is...

What about the rest of the passengers? Did the Canadians have a separate cabin? Were they on their private jet? Really? Isolate ONLY THE CANADIANS AND NOT THE PEOPLE THEY FLEW WITH?!

Apparently this is not a policy instituted by China, but it seems to be a provincial thing (I guess?). So...yeah. Stupid. On so many levels.


2. Did you hear about Egypt? And how they're killing pigs? And they haven't had any cases of Swine flu yet (I think)? And it's just a precautionary measure?

Did you hear about how some people are refusing to eat pork?

Did you know that people eat pork, raw, regularly?

Wait, they don't? So then why don't they buy pork? Because of the H1N1 flu?

Did you know that people are really, really stupid? REALLY, REALLY, FUCKING STUPID?

For the record, there are worse things. Like legalized rape in marriage. Note it's an old article. Also note, it is very real. Note that (as I read from the Metro a few weeks ago), female protestors against the law were stoned by supporters of the law. The supporters also shouted "death to the Christian supporters!" (or something like that, there was definitely death, and Christian, and supporting Christianity).

Yep...I love how all of humanity has learned what "equal human rights" is all about.
